Commutable

Temporary Installation

1996-1997

Commissioned by the Public Art Fund for "In The Public Realm". The project was installed at the Manhattan entrance to the Williamsburg Bridge, NY

For Commutable, the pedestrian and bike path on the Manhattan side of the Williamsburg Bridge, the termination of Delancey street, was gilded with 22 karat gold leaf. As the project aged the gold was gradually worn away, making its way into the community. The project was de-installed in 1998 when the bridge was renovated.
